The White House has claimed in part of its cyber security news release that Russia could use what are thought to be very sophisticated cyberattacks in its effort to cause more disturbance in the Ukraine area. 

The White House has warned about the situation for weeks and months they told a public virtual news conference about the tense European situation. It is thought that Russia’s key strategy to winning on the battlefield is through cyber. It might not be exactly President Putin’s final goal to take over Ukraine. But it is to hold some sort of bargaining power over nato.
